Axel Reymond of France won his second European open water swimming title with a powerful sprint finish over two Italian rivals on the final day of the 2016 European Open Water Championships in Hoorn, Netherlands.

He finished in 5:02:22.0 with a two-body lead over Italians Matteo Furlan and Edoardo Stochino who finished in 5:06:07.5 and 5:09:19.4. respectively.

Along with their Italian female teammates on the last day of competition, Matteo Furlan and Edoardo Stochino helped Italy win the overall Championships with 202 total points. Germany was second with 116 points and the Netherlands third with 101 points.
