After competing in the 32 km Traversée Internationale du lac St-Jean in Canada, the 33 km Ohrid Lake Swim Marathon in Macedonia, and the 36 km Maratona Del Golfo Capri-Napoli in Italy, Tomi Stefanovski of Macedonia [shown above] and Edoardo Stochino of Italy [shown below] tied for the 2016 FINA Open Water Swimming Grand Prix title.

Initially, Stochino went into the Grand Prix lead with a second place finish at the Traversée Internationale du lac St-Jean, but Stefanovski was not far behind with a third. Then, Stefanovski grabbed the lead with a victory at the Ohrid Lake Swim Marathon, but Stochino remained on his heels with a second-place finish.

At the final race on the 2016 circuit, Stochino finished sixth, but Stefanovski was right behind him in seventh. So they tied with 35 total points over short season (since the 25 km Villa Urquiza-Parana in Argentina and the 15 km Maratón Cozumel in Mexico were cancelled).
