24-year-old Ferry Weertman continued the Dutch tradition of coming on top of the open water swimming world, winning the 2016 Rio Olympic Games 10 km marathon swim and being named Swimming World Magazine’s Male Open Water Swimmer of the Year.

He followed in the wake of Herman Willemsee, Judith van Berkel de Nijs, Monique Wildshut, Edith van Dijk, Linsy Heister, Maarten van der Weijden, and Sharon van Rouwendaal, as Dutch swimmers who reached the pinnacle of the world of open water swimming.

At the relatively young age of 24, along with his 22-year-old female teammate i Van Rouwendaal, the Dutch team is looking good for the next quadrennial culminating in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
