Romanian Avram Iancu continues on his stage swim of 2,860 km, forecasted to last 60 days, along the Danube River through Europe.

The 41-year-old librarian from Petrosani, Transylvania started his stage swim from Donaueschingen in the Black Forest in Germany. He is now heading into Day 86 as each day is a dynamically different replication of the day before.

Day 84 on September 11th

A thick blanket of fog engulfed the river this morning, delaying Iancu’s start by two hours. The police banned him from swimming until the weather cleared up for his own safety and that of his team members.

After the first 6 km, he reached Galati where more fans welcomed him. He held a press conference with the main media channels in Romania. After he started swimming again, he faced a strong headwind and huge waves. At the end of the day, Iancu arrived at the 140 km milestone. He swam for a total of 18 km today.

Today the wind intensified and the waves were about one metre high, but Iancu managed to swim 26 km arriving at the 114 km milestone. He passed the Republic of Moldova, as well as the place where the Prut River joins the Danube and arrived in the Ukraine. He felt in excellent shape today and re-focused on completing his journey. He is hoping tomorrow’s forecast of helpful weather will come true and he will have the wind on his back.
