The 2017 Reef & Run Series ended on August 31st with its challenging Boat to Beach race.

Race organizer Jane Cairns awarded 56-year-old Jim Avrea his second consecutive victory.

Kelly Kosmo-Oniel also received a special award along with her father Dave and brother Trevor. The trio received the Jeff Farrell Sportsman Award, given to those individual that support and embody the spirit of Semana Nautica.

Jeff Farrell is a long-time Semana Nautica board member who won two gold medals at the 1960 Rome Olympics weeks after having an emergency appendectomy. Farrell completed the first relay recognized by the Santa Barbara Channel Swimming Association in 1981 together with Dr. Herb Barthels, Beau Gatch, Pam Barthels, Keith Martin, and Steven Snyder.

The Jeff Ferrell Sportsman Award recipients are honored during Semana Nautical Sports Festival and includes the following individuals:
