41-year-old Southern Californian Stephanie Hopson completed the Triple Crown Of Open Water Swimming yesterday with a 19 hour 17 minute crossing of the Catalina Channel that ran turbulent at times during the night.

After successfully dealing with sustained winds of 15-25 knots and a current pushing her off course until the sun rose in the morning, Hopson forged on consistently moving towards the Southern California coastline.

Unlike her 24 hour 31 minute English Channel crossing where her first attempt was thwarted by a rope from a crab pot that got wrapped around the boat’s propeller, Hopson only needed this one chance to complete Catalina and the Triple Crown.
