The world’s first folding kayak has its brand name based on the Japanese word origami (the art of paper folding) and was crowd funded on Kickstarter in 2012.
The creative innovation enabled people to take and use their lightweight, foldable kayaks – that can conveniently packed and stored – to previously inaccessible places (e.g., on airplanes, inside cars, as luggage, on international trips, at open water training and races).
The Oru Kayak inventors have launched on Indiegogo for a second round of crowd funding after receiving many requests from paddlers for a double kayak. Indiegogo, similar to Kickstarter, allows people to solicit funds for an idea, charity, or start-up business – and Oru Kayak’s new Haven tandem kayak is taking off in popularity.
