Bondi surf lifesaver and champion ocean swimmer, Louise Stevenson, completed a 38K double crossing between idyllic Beachcomber Island to Port Denarau through the Mamanuca Islands in Fiji. Her unprecedented solo swim was part of the Fiji Swims in August to raise funds for the 2011 Christchurch Earthquake tragedy.
One of Australia’s best female ocean swimmers, Stevenson is a regular participant at long distance ocean swims and placed first female in the grueling Rottnest Channel Swim 2010 and 2011, as well as in the Bondi to Watsons Bay Swim 2011.
Motivated by health, fitness and doing something different each year, Louise returned to her victory at the 2010 19K Fiji Swims’s Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa to Beachcomber Island. “I wanted to do something no one else has done yet.” Escorted on a paddle board by her fellow surf lifesaver, Becci Gardener, Louise took 9 hours 45 minutes to complete the course.
Originally from Christchurch, New Zealand, Louise has set up a fundraising page to raise much needed funds for the rebuilding of her hometown that has raised over $18,226
