Harry Raisbeck, a member and president of the Black Rock Icebergers in Melbourne, Australia swam 600m daily through winter until his doctor asked him to stop at the age of 95. He frequently did a winter mile swim in the Brighton Baths in Melbourne.
Upon his passing, the Harry Raisbeck Winter Mile race in the Australian winter in July has draw a great crowd event though the water is 6-7ºC (42-44ºF) and neoprene is a no-no.
John van Wisse has done it nearly 20 times and loves it. “People of all ages do it. Harry is a legend to us.”
