How is filmmaking like channel swimming?

They both start with an idea that eventually grows into some much greater with the effort and passion of an artisan.

They both involve a number of stages and a large number of people before they are both completed.

They both include many out-takes, mishaps, and miscues that occur behind the scenes and are only known to the insiders (e.g., actors and film crew or swimmer and escort crew).

They both involve travel, often times overseas, while waiting for the right weather and right conditions, under the direction of a strong leader (film director or boat pilot). They both involve assembling a crew and inevitably dealing with all the things that can go wrong at all the wrong times. The final scenes can be dramatic, either triumphant and victorious, surprising or sad.
