Young Kaoru Yamanaka won the season-ending Japan International Open Water Swimming Association festival on beautiful Kumejima Island in Okinawa, Japan this weekend.

Kumejima is often said to be one of the most beautiful of the Okinawa Islands which lie south of Japan and east of Taiwan with an ocean that is inviting and stunningly gorgeous.

The Kumejima Open Water Swim (沖縄久米島大会) is a two-day event on October 19th-20th and included 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m, 4 x 400m relay, 4 x 2.5 km relay, 5 km, and 10 km races.

Yamanaka, who once swam an elite 10 km ocean race without her goggles that were knocked off and lost at the start, won the featured 10 km race by a comfortable margin.
