Yrjö-Koskinen Mariia of Finland loves the cold water; the colder, the better. The whiter the conditions are, the wider her smile becomes.
“You feel so wonderful in the water and even better when you get out with all the endorphins,” explains the chairperson of the International Winter Swimming Association who shared her experiences of the Bering Strait Swim at the 2013 Global Open Water Swimming Conference in Cork, Ireland.
Together with Nuala Moore, Jackie Cobell, Ram Barkai, Anna Marie Ward, Aleksandr Jakovlev and Dr. Nataliya Fatyanova, her perspective of swimming from Russia to Alaska was fascinating and uplifting (see here).
