Lake Balaton in Hungary will be site of the 5 km, 5 km Team Pursuit, 10 km and 25 km open water races and the high diving competition at the 2021 FINA World Championships and the 2021 FINA Masters Swimming Championships.

Lake Balaton is located 120 km away from the pool and water polo competitions to be held in Budapest, but Lake Balaton is the largest lake in Central Europe and a great tourist destinations.

As Hungary is landlocked, the lake is often affectionately called the Hungarian Sea. Site of the annual Balaton Átúszás, a popular 5.2 km cross-lake swimming competition that starts at Révfülöp port and finishes at Platan beach in Balatonboglár (shown below).
