International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame Honour Swimmer Sally Minty-Gravett is going to attempt a difficult swim from Sark to Jersey tomorrow in the British Channel Islands. If she completes the 12-mile (19 km) swim, she’ll be the first woman to do so.
“Sally is swimming in memory of her late father Leslie,” said her husband Charlie Gravett. “We shall be leaving St Helier Harbour and go west about via Corbiere to Sark. The swim will start at precisely 0716 from Dixcart Bay and progress to or about Plemont Point on Jersey’s north coast.”
Neil Faudemer, a fellow swimmer from Jersey, was the first person in history to complete this swim in July 2011. The 51-year-old completed the pioneering crossing in 8 hours 9 minutes despite encountering a shark and jellyfish swarms.
