Even up, it sure is.
The Kingdom Games offers the Aquaman Even Up event on August 1st that is a swimmers’ dream. The Aquaman Even Up includes a 3.5-mile swim followed by a 34-mile bike and a 13.1-mile run.
Phil White explains how he came up with these distances for the triathlons in Vermont, “The basic concept is that a strong runner, biker, or swimmer would spend about the same time on each leg.
We use the run as the base. With Aquaman, it is a half marathon or 13.1 miles, half the Ironman distance. A strong athlete can complete that in about 1.5 hours. So we tried to make each other leg take about the same amount of time. Hence, the 3.5-mile swim and the 34-mile bike.
The Ollie Even Up event uses the Olympic running distance of 10 km which is just about half of a half-marathon distance. Hence, the swim is half of what it is in the Aquaman or 1.75 miles and the bike is about 15 miles.”
On the same day as the Aquaman Even Up and the Ollie Even Up, White also organized the Kingdom Sprint, a triathlon with a 500-yard swim, a 13-mile bike and a 5-mile run.
The other triathlons organized by White are based on the geography of each individual course. “The course at the Echo Lake Road Race is a 5-mile dirt road loop around the lake. Do it once or twice on the run in the morning, once or twice on the bike in the afternoon, and then your choice of the 1- or 3-mile swim. The Echo Lake Road Race & Swim on August 22nd is an adjustable stage triathlon with either a 5- or 10-mile run, a 5- or 10-mile bike and a 1-or 3-mile swim Do one or do them all.
In Lake Willoughby, the bike and the run are fixed by the terrain we have and the swim to Devil’s Rock is a classic half-Ironman swim distance.
All our triathlons are intended to end the triathlon discrimination against strong swimmers. Each triathlon has a strong swimming leg and each is run on a pristine lake: Seymour, Willoughby and Echo.”
