Studies show that walking 10,000 steps each day can help improve health and reduce the risk of chronic disease.
10,000 steps roughly equates to 5 miles or 8 km.
But personal trainer Harley Pasternak who advises celebrities like Adam Levine, Gwen Stefani, Jessica Simpson, Ariana Grande, John Mayer, Charlie Puth, Jordana Brewster, Rob Pattinson, Tobey Maguire, Lady Gaga, Megan Fox, and Jennifer Hudson says, “10,000 steps is the least you should do. I recommend [doing] around 14,000 steps a day.”
So what is 10,000 steps estimated to be in the water?
60 minutes of swimming freestyle = 60 x 203 or 12,180 steps
60 minutes of swimming backstroke = 60 x 203 or 12,180 steps
60 minutes of swimming breaststroke = 60 x 290 or 17,400 steps
60 minutes of swimming fast (any stroke) = 60 x 303 or 18,180 steps
60 minutes of swimming butterfly = 60 x 319 or 19,140 steps
For most masters swimmers and open water swimmers, 60 minutes of swimming is a fairly reasonable daily goal – and meets Pasternak’s recommendations.
