2019 Successes Across The Strait of Gibraltar

Laura Gutiérrez Díaz of the Asociación Cruce A Nado Del Estrecho De Gibraltar announced the final results of the 2019 Strait of Gibraltar season.

There were a total of 52 crossings completed by 142 swimmers. The traditional soloists included 55 swimmers (14 females + 41 males), channel swimmers with neoprene included 87 swimmers (11 females + 76 males), and 8 did not finish.”

Jaime Lomelin Gavaldon of Mexico was the fastest traditional male swimmer of the year with a 3 hour 27 minute crossing on July 5th. Yulia Ovodkova of Russia was the fastest and youngest traditional female swimmer of the year at 34 years old in 4 hours 4 minutes on April 5th.

Aliaksandr Kavalkou and Nikolaj Gorov of Belarus were the fastest neoprene male swimmers of the year with a 3 hour 3 minute crossing completed on April 12th. 20-year-old Andrea Marco Martinez of Spain was the fastest and youngest neoprene female swimmer of the year with a 3 hour 43 minute crossing completed on August 20th.

67-year-old James Reynolds Clifford, Sr. was the oldest traditional male swimmer of the year with a 4 hour 48 minute crossing completed on August 28th. 67-year-old Enriqueta Nuñez Ríos of Mexico was the oldest traditional female swimmer of the year with a 6 hour 15 minute crossing completed on June 27th.

64-year-old James Laurence Brent of the U.K. was the oldest neoprene male swimmer of the year with a 3 hour 55 minute crossing completed on August 18th. 49-year-old Cristina Vallespi Suñe of Spain was the oldest neoprene female swimmer of the year with a 4 hour 1 minute crossing completed on April 13th.

19-year-old Prabhat Raju Koli was the youngest traditional male swimmer of the year with a 4 hour 22 minute crossing completed on April 21st. 18-year-old Álvaro Ruiz Tabas of Spain was the youngest neoprene male swimmer of the year with a 4 hour 43 minute crossing completed on August 9th.

There were also several first during the season:

* Roman Vitalievuch Morozov of Bulgaria was the first swimmer from Bulgaria who completed a Strait of Gibraltar crossing: in 4 hours 4 minutes on May 4th
* Oleksii Teriakhin of Ukraine was the first swimmer from Ukraine who completed a Strait of Gibraltar crossing: in 4 hours 1 minute on September 9th
* Vjaceslavs Kocetkovs and Jevgenijs Birins of Latvia were the first swimmers from Latvia who completed a Strait of Gibraltar crossing with neoprene: in 5 hours 23 minutes on September 15th
