Conor Gunn Inducted In Hall of Fame – Marathon Swimming Ireland
The newest members joined the Class of 2019 (Anne-Marie Ward, Grainne Gunn, Ion Lazarenco Tiron, Ned Denison, Stephen Millar, Sandycove Island Swimmers) and Class of 2018 (Chris Bryan, Lisa Cummins, Kieran Fitzgerald, Jack McClelland, Deirdre Ward, Eilís Burns, Martin Cullen, Brian Meharg, and Quinton Nelson).
Gunn won the 17 km men’s Irish Open Water Swimming Championships 10 times in a row starting in 1992. He also completed the English Channel in 9 hours 11 minutes in 1994 which still remains the fastest time by any swimmer from Ireland. That swim was the reason he won the Centenary Cup (given to the Fastest Swim of the Year by a British Person by the Channel Swimming Association) by crossing the English Channel in 1994 for his 9 hour 11 minute crossing.
