Nachts Allein Im Ozean, Mein Weg durch die Ocean’s Seven
Courtesy of WOWSA, Huntington Beach, California.
André Wiersig became the first Oceans Seven swimmer from Germany in 2019. He completed the Oceans Seven after a steady six-year journey around the world that included an 18 hour 26 minute turbulent crossing of the Molokai Channel and a swift 9 hour 44 minute crossing of the English Channel. He serves as an ambassador for the German Ocean Foundation and shares his approach how to live an adventurous, eco-friendly life amid all the comforts in the modern world.
His platform is augmented with his book published relatively soon after his last Oceans Seven channel across the Strait of Gibraltar. Wiersig co-wrote Nachts Allein Im Ozean, Mein Weg durch die Ocean’s Seven (English translation: Alone in the Ocean at Night, My Way through the Ocean’s Seven), a beautiful hardcover book together with German sports historian Erik Eggers.
Wiersig and Eggers tell how Wiersig prepared for the Oceans Seven – and what he experienced along the way including swimming at night in oceans where he encountered sharks, dolphins, whales, and plastic garbage. The book is filled with dramatic photography, the design of the book is absolutely gorgeous with several full-page and panoramic images taken by Dennis Daletzki. Readers can feel the power of the ocean while gaining a good appreciation of the vast expanse in the channels where Wiersig swam.
During his journey from the time, Wiersig became an ambassador for the oceans and the German Ocean Foundation. His mission is to teach others life lessons including how to live an adventurous, eco-friendly life amid the comforts in the modern world.

An audio CD by Erik Eggers, Klaus Sander, André Wiersig
In this audio CD, they described how it took Wiersig six years to become the first German-speaking athlete to achieve the Oceans Seven. In Ein Mann des Meeres, the German native of Paderborn tells of his adventures in the English Channel between England and France, the Molokai Channel in Hawaii, the North Channel between Northern Ireland and Scotland, the Catalina Channel in California, the Tsugaru Channel in northern Japan, the Cook Strait in New Zealand, and the Strait of Gibraltar between Spain and Morocco.
Wiersig tells of his emotional near-death experiences, his painful encounters with venomous jellyfish and encounters with sea lions, flying fish, whales and sharks, and ultimately how his journey moved him to become an ocean advocate.
